1. I wanted to write about this a long time ago..but only today that i have the time to write about it. The title explain it all 'bias'. what does it means?
2.There are several common types of bias. Among them are :
a.
Halo Effect
The halo effect is the tendency to rate someone high or low in all categories because he or she is high or low in one or two areas. Just because of one attribute that a person is poor at, the perceiver will make assumption using this single attribute to make an overall perception on the person.
b.
Central Tendency
The habit of assessing almost everyone as average. A person applying this bias will tend not to rate anyone very high or very low. To me this is not right. We should give compliment if the person is good and criticize them if they make mistake. We should not make it average.
c.
Recency Bias
Tendency to assess people based on most recent behaviour and ignoring behaviour that is "older".
d.
Opportunity Bias
Ignoring the notion that opportunity (factors beyond the control of the employee) may either restrict or facilitate performance, and assigning credit or blame to the employee when the true cause of the performance was opportunity.
e.
False Attribution Errors
We have a tendency to attribute success or failure to individual effort and ability (at least in North America). So when someone does well, we give them credit, and when someone does less well, we suggest it's somehow their fault. While there is some truth in this, the reality is that performance is a function of both the individual and the system he or she works in. Often we misattribute success and failure and assume they are both under the complete control of the employee. If we do, we will never improve performance.
i ask myself , how often it is biasness occur to people?? why people have a bias perception..??
is it wrong to be bias???
what are those issues that we should be a little bit bias when receiving information about it??
how to ensure that we are not becoming a victim of a bias perception?? how to avoid from being bias??
all these questions appear in my head and for some reason i seemed to have answers for them..
to avoid from being bias..always ask..in a Malay proverb " Malu bertanya sesat jalan" they stressed out that if we dont know about something ..we should ask..it could avoided us from being a bias perceiver...
lastly what kind of issues i should be bias on? well..what i do is..normally i will be very bias on things that coming from the westerners..their culture, their lifestyle..even their movies..their everything that seem so unacceptable..i will have to filter it myself and be very bias about those things..because..i believe in my culture ..Malaysian culture..Malaysian value..and so forth..
KAK singning out!
